The Bonding of Mount Girls

A week ago, Tina Weber Smith (74) started a Face Book page entitled MSJ Girls. Today, a week later -- there are 125 members! Everybody came out of the woodwork. It's been a memory fest! I have been scanning and uploading pictures from The Mount as fast as I can -- other people have been digging through their albums and closets to find pictures. Granted, this is probably the "younger" crowd (as in Mount girls from the 70's and 80's) but we'd love to have anybody from any year! It's a blast! It's so cool to see people sharing such a broad range of memories and pictures!

Once again, I am so struck by the special bond we have. It's something we can't describe to anyone who went to a regular high school. It's a bond that pulls us together over time and distance -- a bond we share even when we have gone there different years!!

It we were just now starting an Alumnae Association - -it would be a Face Book page! As it is, we have a wonderful Alumnae Association in place -- and Face Book is simply another means of communication for us. It's another way of staying connected. Another way to share the memories and keep in touch.

For the past week, every morning before I go to the office, I've run to my computer to check if anything new has been added. And, I rush home in the evenings to do the same. And I will admit that I am one of the chatterboxes. Rose Turnquist (who only came our junior year) and Julia Gosser (who came the first 3 years) and I have been MSJ Girl Face Book page junkies this week. I can't remember the last time I have laughed so hard and so much. It's probably the best medicine I've had all year!

But take Rose, Julie and myself -- our paths have gone many, many directions -- we have not talked to each other since 1972!!! And now, we can't run out of things to say, to share, to laugh and talk about. I can't say we were best buds in high school -- we were friends -- we were classmates. Now, there is a strong bond there that will stay, and keep us connected.

It's great to share the memories -- but it's even better to find a friendship that is for TODAY.

If you aren't on Facebook with us -- email me and I'll get you going!
